COVID 19 Vaccine

It’s been a year since COVID-19 forced everyone to enter a lockdown, social distance from other humans, and wear a mask. Yes, it’s been difficult and uncomfortable at times, but there seems to be a light at the end of this very long and dark tunnel. Because I work at a public library, I’m classified as an “educator”, and the city I work for offered me an opportunity to receive the vaccine. I received my first dose of the Moderna vaccine in February, and I just received my second dose two days ago. I had mild chills after the first dose, but the second dose really put me out: fever, chills, body ache and a headache. Two days later, I’m beginning to fell better. Despite my reaction to the vaccine, I’m glad I took it.

I hope everyone takes the vaccine so we can begin to get back to normal. I’m looking forward to stepping outside of my apartment without a mask on, and going to different venues again. I’m looking forward to eating in my favorite restaurants without feeling paranoid. We can all get there, but we’ll get there much faster if everyone cooperates.

Marvel Movies Are Keeping Me Sane During COVID 19

Yes, like any good nerd, I’ve probably seen everything the MCU has produced, more than once. Lately, channels like TNT and USA have been running mini-marathons of some of my favorite Marvel movies: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, etc. Even though I’ve seen them several times, watching them again during the days I’m home from work is helping me cope with the current conditions of the world we live in.

This will probably sound like a corny after-school-special statement, but I’m going to say it anyway. Marvel movies are all about people coming together to work through seemingly impossible situations. Sure, some of those people have super powers, but the point is, they’re working together for a cause. I wish I could say the same about our society, especially here in America. Every time I hear someone mention their reasons for not wearing a mask, I wish I had super powers myself (though it’s probably a good thing I don’t, because a lot of people would get hurt). It’s almost sad: all this talk about how ‘we’re in this together’, and all of us can’t seem to do a simple thing: wear a mask.

Fortunately, when the real world gets to be too much, I can still turn to the MCU for escape and perhaps, some inspiration. I keep telling myself, this will all be over soon, and things will return to normal. They could return to normal much sooner, if we really were all in this together.

I Just Wanna Shelter In Place Like A Good Introvert

I live in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, where new cases of the Coronavirus are developing. I work for the city of Hampton, at the public library. While we will be closed to the public until the end of the month, all of the employees still need to report to work. We’re cleaning, shifting books, and pulling books that are on request, so we can be ready when it’s time for us to re-open. Still, everyday I watch the news and hear the President and the Governor of VA tell people they need to stay home. When I learned the library would be closed, I thought we employees would get to stay home. But, we’re still going into the library. I’m hauling myself into work, when all I want to do is just stay home.

Sheltering in place is easy to do if you’re an introvert. I have plenty to keep me busy at home: I’m working on two manuscripts, my website needs constant updating, I’m reviewing content for other writers and then of course, there’s this blog! I would LOVE to just stay home. I don’t know. Maybe things will changes within the next few days.
