Yeah, that title is long, isn’t it? Sorry about that. But let’s dig in.

One of my favorite elements of the Our Lady of Righteous Rage series, is the inclusion of song lyrics. I’ve written poetry over the years, but I never felt brave enough to write song lyrics…until I began working on Our Lady.  I figured, a book about a band, needs some music, right? I figured, the least I could do, was write some lyrics, and include them in the story itself. 

Amy, the main character, learns to play the guitar, and begins penning lyrics to her own songs. She (like me) draws inspiration from her life. When her great aunt passes away, she, along with her mother and sister, attend the wake and funeral service.  Looking around at everyone in attendance and listening to their conversations, she picks up on the fact, most of the attendees are only interested in what they may gain from the great aunt’s death. She begins to view the funeral as a sort of “spectator sport”, and when she gets home, she finds herself writing a song, which later becomes an Our Lady hit: “Come For The Wake, Stay For The Funeral.

All you spectators, please gather ‘round

The dearly beloved is barely in the ground

Much of what takes place in Our Lady, is inspired by events from my life. The story behind the song, “Come For The Wake”, is an example.  My Great Aunt Dorothy passed away in 2007. Most of my family members, were concerned about who she left her house and her possessions to. Never mind the fact the woman had passed away; they were only concerned with how they would benefit from her passing. This inspired me to write the lyrics to the song:

All you spectators, please gather ‘round

The dearly beloved is barely in the ground

Did you come to mourn, or to grieve

All you care about is…..

What did he leave me?

The latest Our Lady book, Rock N Role Model, is available on Amazon. It’s a prequel to my upcoming Rise Resist Reform, which will include more song lyrics than most of the other books in the series.  I’ll keep you posted!
