I’m still working on the sequel to The Witch of Fulton Lane, which I published in 2017. The Age of the Daughter is coming along smoothly, and I’m taking more time with it because research has led me to some very interesting information, and I want to include as much of it as possible in this story. There will be references to the Me Too Movement. That may not make sense right now, but it will, when the story is complete. Until then, here’s a little sample:
Diana and Aradia climbed the cement steps to the porch of a dim, two-story house, in the middle of a quiet street. The only sound that could be heard, was a neighbor’s dog, barking occasionally. Diana knocked on the large, wooden front door, and the two of them waited. A minute later, the door opened. A woman dressed in a long, velvet red dress stood with a smile on her face. “Diana!” she exclaimed. “Welcome back! Oh, and you brought our Aradia with you. Good! Come inside.” She stepped aside and watched her two guess enter. They walked down a short hallway, to a living room, where several other women were seated. They smiled and greeted Diana and her daughter.
“We were just talking about you,” an older woman said. She was sitting in an armchair, with her hands clasped in her lap. “How was your trip?”
“Exhilarating,” Diana said. “We met so many people; so many wonderful women who share our beliefs. And all of them loved Aradia.”
“How could they do anything but love her?” another woman said.
Diana turned to the woman who had answered the door. “Ophelia, I’ve been having the strangest feeling lately. Something’s happening.”
“Indeed,” Ophelia said. She pointed to the flatscreen TV, which was mounted on the wall, above the fireplace. A story was airing on CNN.
“Harvey Weinstein,” one of the women said, shaking her head in disgust.
“His time is coming,” Ophelia said. “You can feel it, can’t you, ladies? In the air?”
All of the women nodded. Aradia looked around the room, then looked at the TV. She stared at the image of Weinstein on the screen. A destroyer of women, she thought.
“The Age of the Daughter is fast upon us, ladies,” Ophelia said. “Just as the Prophecy said. The time for men to learn their true place in the world, is coming.” She looked at Aradia, and held out her hand. Aradia hesitated, but moved forward when she felt her mother’s hand gently push her on her back. She walked over to Ophelia, who placed her hands on her shoulders. “You are so important to us, Aradia. You are so important to this movement, that will soon take place.”
“Hail, hail!” all of the women said at once.
“When the Age of the Daughter begins,” Ophelia began, “you will see. Can you feel the rise in power, Aradia?”
Aradia nodded her head slowly. She felt nothing; no rise in power. But she didn’t want to upset the rest of her mother’s coven. “I feel it,” she said, quietly.
“It will only grow stronger,” Ophelia said. She hugged Aradia against her, forcing Aradia’s chin to rest on her shoulder. “You’ll see, my dear.”
Behind Ophelia’s back, where none of the other women could see, Aradia’s green eyes began to glow.
The Age of the Daughter is coming soon…
