I’m going to make this brief. This past weekend was the debut of the XFL’s first season. Four games were played: two on Saturday, two on Sunday. Mind you, I am an NFL fan. But when the NFL’s season ends, I’m left without football until Fall. Thanks to the XFL, I don’t have to wait as long to watch my favorite sport.

So far, I’m a fan of the DC Defenders and the New York Guardians. Both teams played very well, especially NYG. They beat the Tampa Bay Vipers, 23-3. 

There are some noticeable differences between the NFL and the XFL. So far, I’ve seen two female officials (one of  who is Black). The lineup for kick-off makes more sense in the XFL: the kicker for the kicking team and the receiver for the receiving team are at opposite ends of the field, by themselves. This means the kicker doesn’t have to worry about getting trampled by the other team, and the receiver can catch the ball and have an opportunity to run it. Plus, when a team scores a touchdown, they don’t need to kick for the extra point. Instead, the line of scrimmage can be the 2, 5 or 10 yard line. If the offense can get the ball into the end zone, they will score 1, 2 or 3 points, depending on where the line of scrimmage was. Pretty cool, right?
