The young heroes of Fortune’s Wing have a lot on their plate. They have to battle monsters and sorcerers, protect one another from harm, and save the world. But they’re still in high school. So they’ve gotta make time to be young, right?

I like characters who can be fierce and mature and  take down their enemies. But it’s even better when they have moments that remind you of their age. For example, take Stewie on Family Guy. Is he smart? Yes. Diabolical? Sure. But he’s also a baby, and every now and then, he does things to remind us he’s a baby (like the way he depends on his stuffed bear, Rupert). The teenagers in Fortune’s Wing are the same way. When they’re not dealing with the serious business of fighting to save the world, they have moments where they just act like teenagers. 

I could go for a Dr. Pepper right about now

There’s a scene in which Fortune talks to his friends about his reoccurring dream about the end of the world. His friends try to ease his mind and convince him not to think about it. His girlfriend Esrieve mentions that she could “go for a Dr. Pepper right about now.” The teens lie to their parents about where they’re going, when they do join Fortune on his journey (who wants to explain to their parents, they need to help a friend complete a set of wings in order to determine the fate of the world? Anyone?). Other typical teen behaviors include Tony and Haverdy trading insults back and forth, and the boys teasing the girls about “not being descent” when they all wake up early one morning. It’s little moments like that, that liven the moods between fighting monsters on the beach and being attacked by a band of sorcerers.
