Kindred  by Octavia Butler

This is a beautiful blend of drama and science fiction. It tackles the themes of race, sexuality and slavery. I was excited when someone told me about this book, because before I read it, I had never known a sci-fi novel written by someone who looked remotely like me. Even if you’re not into sci-fi, this book is a must-read.
