Just the other day, a fellow writer asked me an interesting question: “How often do you talk about your books?” I had to think about it for a moment. I asked, “Do you mean online or person to person?” The response was “person to person”. My answer: “almost never”. I felt a bit guilty about that. Then I thought, why? Why should I feel guilty? I’m not a talker. I’m a writer…I write. One of my least favorite things to do, is talk about myself to other people, let alone talk about my books. It just makes me feel awkward.

Here’s my question to everyone reading this: how often do you TALK about your writing? How many times have you said out loud to another human, “I’m a writer and I wrote a book called blah-blah”? My personal concern is sounding like a jerk who’s bragging. I work in a public library, and I’ve been there for sixteen months now. Some of my co-workers have only just learned about my books. The question I hear the most often is, “Why didn’t you say you’re a writer?” It’s just feels strange for me to talk about my books. It’s not that I’m not proud of my writing; it just makes me feel silly, standing around, telling someone what Fortune’s Wing is about.
Maybe it’s just me. Anyone out there have any thoughts they’d like to share? Feel free to speak your mind in the comments below!
