Sometimes the things you plan, don’t go according to the plan. Things go a little awry. But, you have to be thankful for happy accidents. A happy accident is what led to sixteen books for Woolaston Entertainment.

Years ago, I was working on a story titled Vengeance Angel Yuka. Back then, I wrote books in journals and created my own covers. I was nearing the end of Yuka and I needed some artwork for the cover. I made a sketch of a girl holding a gun, and decided this image would be used for the cover. But, there was something missing from it. I began to play around with the color of the hair. My plan was to color the girl’s hair blonde, with a single pink streak. However, I ended up coloring all of her hair pink. I was annoyed with myself…for a moment. I looked at the image, and developed another idea for another story: a goth girl with a pair of handguns who is forced to go on a road trip to rescue her father. I finished Yuka, and began working on my new idea. I eventually created another cover for Yuka, and the “mistake” became the image on the cover of Valentine.

That’s right: Valentine was created from a mistake. A mistake! I can’t help but wonder: what if I hadn’t messed up when I was coloring the hair? What if I did what I wanted to do the first time around? Would I have published Yuka instead? Would I have written Valentine at all? Probably not. This means there wouldn’t be a Valentine series, or a Valentine Apart series, and there wouldn’t be a Lucia and the Saints series, either. No Allan and Mac or Her Name Is Lola Vencent. It’s a scary thought for me.

I made a mistake, but perhaps it wasn’t really a mistake after all. I’m glad it happened.
