I can’t let this month go by without giving a shot-out to a Black author who is very near and dear to me. I’m talking about June E. Parris: my mother. She says I’m inspiration, but the truth is she’s MY inspiration. She has a lot of stories in her, and she published her first book, The Kindness of Strangers, in 2016. Since then she has published three more, but A Rose Left Behind is my favorite.

A Rose Left Behind is a story of family and mystery. A young girl named Myra and her mother go to stay with Myra’s grandmother in her cottage, and discover the property is haunted by the ghost of a little slave girl. The only way to help her move on is to learn more about her and discover what she wants. It’s a very sweet and creative story, and the book itself features a personal element. On the cover, is a picture of my mother when she was about four years old. When I created the cover, I knew that picture belonged on it.

My mother is currently working on ideas for her next book, and I’m looking forward to publishing it for her. All of her books are available via this website and Amazon.
