Happy Hump Day, everybody! It’s a great day to be a writer…oh, everyday is a great day to be a writer! Today I’m looking over the author’s proof copy I received in the mail for my upcoming Fortune’s Wing The Omnibus. So far, I’ve only found two typos, but I’m going to keep reading. I should have the first round of editing done by the end of this week or the beginning of next week; I’m not in a hurry.
If you’re publishing with Amazon’s KDP and you need to edit your book I highly recommend ordering a proof copy. Yes, you can print your own copy or download a PDF, but holding an actual proof in your hand just hits differently. You can see what the book will actually look like once it’s published. Plus, I think a proof copy is better for editing. I have ordered proofs for the last few books I’ve published and its one of the best decisions I’ve made.
There’s something else the proof copy will do for you. It will make your book more real, more concrete. When you receive it you might look at it and think, Wow, this is an actual book I’m holding. So yes, order a proof copy. Look it over. Be proud of what you have created.
Gotta go. My stomach’s growling and there’s a frosted strawberry Pop Tart with my name on it.
Fortune’s Wing The omnibus drops next month, Feb. 17.
