Sometimes you come across wisdom in the strangest places. I work in the cataloging department of a library; I receive all of the new books and label and case them after they’ve been catalogued. An interesting book recently came across my desk: a little Young Adult fiction titled Barbie Dreamscape.
While checking the book for any torn pages or mistakes I read the message on the back cover. “Dream big. Fail hard. Get back up again.” I thought, Wow, that’s actually pretty solid advice. Considering this is Novel November, I think its something every writer and creative person needs to hear, or at least be reminded of. There’s nothing wrong with failure, as long as you continue to try. Failure teaches us what doesn’t work, so we don’t need to go down that road again. Failure is a sign of progress.
Take Barbie’s advice. Dream big. Fail hard. Get back up again. And of course, keep on writing.
