Georgia, A Vegas Trip and Witches

When the order to stay home came about in Virginia, I thought, “I’m gonna stay home and write all the things!” Then my job informed me, even though we would be closed to the public (I work in a library, btw) we would still come in to work. But, it’s only twenty hours a week, or three days, so that frees me up for the remaining four days of the week. I still expected to get a ton of writing done.

I feel like the bank clerk in that Twilight Zone episode, “Time Enough At Last”.

But I, along with many of the writers I chat with online, haven’t felt like writing lately. It’s a bummer. I feel like the bank clerk in that Twilight Zone episode, “Time Enough At Last”. All those books and plenty of time…and he can’t read them (I won’t spoil it too much in case you’ve never seen it. If you have Netflix, please check it out). I finally managed to get out of my own way, and start writing again. I have three new books on the way, so here we go:

Barrin Heights

Fourth grade teacher Lena Scott and nephew James receive the opportunity of a lifetime. They purchase a new house in a new subdivision in a new town: Barrin, Georgia. However, this new neighborhood has the strictest Home Owners Association ever invented. There are rules that must be followed to the letter. Over time, Lena and James begin to learn the dire consequences of breaking the rules…

I Probably Should Have Kept That To Myself

I’m killing two birds with one stone here. One, Aidan is a fan favorite from the Our Lady of Righteous Rage series and I should have given him his own book a long time ago. Two, I wanted to write a book that was dedicated to my male readers (I tend to be very female-centric). In this Our Lady companion book, Aidan gets invited to spend a weekend in Vegas with his brothers. But, a tight space, plenty of alcohol, and a long weekend bring out some truths none of them are really prepared to deal with. Testosterone and pinned up hostility are a bad combination in this story, as Aidan leads readers through the present, back through his childhood traumas and to the present yet again, in his own honest, extremely sarcastic, unfiltered way.

And finally:

The Age of the Daughter: The Sequel to The Witch of Fulton Lane

I’ve been taking my time with this one, because I kept stumbling across little tidbits of information that I wanted to weave into the story. In this sequel, Fulton Lane’s resident witch Dylan Maycriss finds herself caught up in a prophecy believed by a peculiar coven of Dianic Wiccans. Even worse, is the adversary Dylan must face, who seems to have abilities which mirror her own.

I’m planning to have this one ready within the next few weeks, pandemic or not.

Keep reading and writing, folks. And stay home!

This One’s For The Boys

I’ve been working on a few different ideas for stories for my male readers, to give them a break from my female-centric writing. My strongest idea involves one of my characters from the Our Lady of Righteous Rage series: Aidan. Much like Erin, Dee and Jon, Aidan is getting a solo book. The working title is I Probably Should Have Kept That To Myself  Here’s a sample from the first chapter. I hope to have the book ready for publication by the end of May. Enjoy!

Chapter One

There’s a tiny bag of weed in the back of one of my dresser drawers, and nobody knows this but me. I shouldn’t be thinking about it right now, but I am. I’m thinking about opening that drawer, grabbing that little bag and hiding it in my suitcase. Nah—it would be my luck to have some drug-sniffing dog at the airport rat me out. Besides, I promised my wife I’d quit smoking.

But that was before I agreed to go with my brothers to Las Vegas. It’s only for the weekend, still, I’m rethinking it now. Rethinking and rethinking…

“You have your ticket, right?”

Dee was talking to me from the bathroom. She had just changed the bath towels: fresh dark gray ones to match our black and white color scheme.

“Yep,” I replied. “It’s with my suitcase.” I looked over at the drawer where I keep the weed, one last time. Nope. I’ll leave it here. Better safe than sorry.

Dee emerged from the bathroom. She was wearing a pair of camouflage yoga pants and a black tank top. I’m only going to be away from her for the weekend and I already miss her. Is that stupid? I mean, I haven’t even left the damn house yet. “What are you going to do all weekend with me out of the house?”

Dee shrugged, casually. “I’ll probably go harass Amy. Or I might kick around Urban Collective for a few hours. You’re not worried about me, are you?”

“No, it’s not you I’m worried about,” I said.

“Are you planning on getting into a fight with your brothers?” Dee asked. She walked up behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist. I took one of her hands in mine. Her brown complexion is a stark contrast to mine: I’m whiter than a ghost. Some days I feel like I’m haunting my own house.

“I never plan it,” I said. “But sometimes it just happens.”

“Promise me you’ll try to get along with them.”

“I promise, Frisky. Scout’s honor.”

“You were never a boy scout.”

I smiled. I never would have lasted as a boy scout.

I Probably Should Have Kept That To Myself is coming soon!

Lucia and the Saints: Volume Five

There are so three reasons I’m excited about the release of my latest creation, Lucia and the Saints: Volume Five. (1) It’s my 30th published book! (2) It’s the second to last in the series, and (3) It helped me get over my writer’s block, and get out of my dry spell.

Volume Five is the step before the conclusion of the Lucia series. It also brings us closer to the next Valentine series, Valentine R. Should you read Lucia before Valentine R comes out? Not necessarily, but it may help to understand the story a little more. Whenever I write a companion or “spin-off” series, I try to make it stand alone. So, you can read it along with the original series, or you can read it by itself. Lucia works the same way. You can read it, without reading any of the Valentine books first, but it you do read both series, you will recognize the connections between the two.

Lucia Vol Five Cover

Volume Five sees the Lady Saints in action. They’re about to do something that will earn respect from several of the businesses in their area, and reveal another side of Lucia. The girls have a better understanding of who they’re working with, but they’re about to learn even more. Plus, an important person in Valentine’s life will be introduced.

Lucia and the Saints: Volume Five is available in ebook form, on Amazon. Look for it in paperback form by the end of the year.

The Dark Side of Valentine

“I’ll kill you myself. I’ll kill you in the most violent way I can think of.”

valentine4cover

If you’ve read the books in the Valentine series, you may have noticed, the story started out with mild violence, which progressed as the story continued. Yes, bullets have been fired and people have been shot. In fact, a few people have died. In a story involving a girl who carries a pair of handguns and is friends with a lot of hit men and hit women, there has to be some sort of body count.

The Val Entienne you have come to know in the previous books in the series, is going to change in book 4. She’s a little darker; she has to be. Now more than ever, Val wants to protect her family, and this time, the threat isn’t an assumed one. This time, the threat is very, very real. Rafferty has made it clear, he wants Val dead.  So, it’s kill or be killed.

You can expect a few deaths in this part of the story. Not to include any spoilers, but keep an eye on Val’s demeanor, from here on, because it’s going to change.

. “Interesting,” Kelly said.  “Would you like Jo to shoot her for you?”

“I could,” Jo said.

Veronica came back into the living room. “What?” she said.

“Or one of us could do it,” Mac said.

“I’d be glad to do it,” Lola said.

“Why don’t we draw straws?” Jo asked.

Val looked around at the faces of her friends, laughed. “Oh my God,” she said. “All my friends are killers. How did that happen?”

Preview of “Rowdy”

“Rowdy”, part three of the Our Lady of Righteous Rage series, is coming out at the end of the month. Here’s a little preview: Chapters 1-2. Enjoy!

Chapter One

Amy

I was sitting on the couch inside the recording studio at Urban Collective, scanning an article in Alternative Press magazine. If anyone had asked me what the article was about, I couldn’t have told them. I wasn’t reading it; not really. There were words and pictures on the page, but all I could see was red. I’d never been so pissed off in all my life. My friends and I had been busting our asses to make a name for our band, and my idiot ex-husband was working to destroy it all! Who the hell does that?

“Did you know Kurt Cobain died on my sixteenth birthday?”

I looked up from the magazine to see Aidan, sitting across from me on a stool, scrolling through his phone. He looked up from the screen and smiled at me. “That’s pretty trippy, right?”

I shook my head and sighed. “I’m sorry, Aidan,” I said. “I completely forgot you were here. I’m still so angry about this whole thing with David.”

“I know,” Aidan said. He slid his phone into his back pocket, and clasped his hands in his lap. “So, what are we gonna do about him?”

“I don’t know yet,” I replied. “Nick said he wanted to talk to David, one on one. And Rob…well, Rob just wants to kick his ass.” I set the magazine down on the cushion next to me. “So does Jon.”

“Well, you can add my name to that list, too,” Aidan said. “Piece of shit. What was he thinking?”

I shook my head at the idea. “To think we used to be friends,” I said. “I mean, I always believed we would still have that, you know? I believed, even if we didn’t work out as a couple, we could at least hold on to our friendship. I guess I thought wrong.”

Aidan smiled at me. “David never knew what he had when he was with you,” he said. “That’s why he’s so pissed off. He lost the greatest thing that ever happened to him.”

“Aidan?” I said, feeling my eyes becoming watery. “Dude, don’t say stuff like that! You’re gonna make me cry.”

“It’s the truth!” Aidan insisted. “Losing you fucked him up.”

At that moment, Nick walked in, and plopped down beside me. “Hey,” he said, with a sigh. “What’s up?”

“The ceiling,” Aidan replied. “What’s up with you?”

Nick smirked at him. “Trying to figure out what to do about this David situation,” he said. “I could just have him killed, you know. The Lianetti name carries a lot of weight in Sicily, and all I have to do is make a phone call and pay for a plane ticket—”

“Stop,” I said. “We’re not having anyone killed. We’re going to be rational adults about this.”

“I don’t want to be a rational adult,” Aidan said, flicking his tail. “I wanna put my foot up David’s ass.”

“So do I,” I said. “But that’s not the way to handle this.”

Nick reached up and scratched the back of his head. “Yeah, you’re right,” he said. “What we need to do, is keep doing what we’ve been doing. We need to keep making music.”

“We need to release another album,” Aidan said.

Nick nodded in agreement. “I’m going to start working on some songs. If you guys come up with anything, let me know, and we’ll work on it.” He paused for a moment, then added. “I did try to call David, but he wouldn’t answer his cell or return any of my calls. I know he got my voice mails.”

“Don’t worry about him,” I said. “Like you said, we need to focus on making music.”

Chapter Two

Nick

It’s always the ones you least suspect, who screw you over. If a total stranger had been behind all of our problems, I could live with that. But my cousin? My own family? How am I supposed to feel about that?

When I left the studio, I went home. Nyda wasn’t in yet, so I had the place to myself. With so much idle time on my hands, I figured I could get some writing done. We needed a new album; one that would blow all of our haters out of the water. I had a lot of work ahead of me.

Aidan is not to be messed with…

You tell David,” I began, “If he does anything to hurt Amy, I will rain down on him like a fucking biblical plague.

Yeah, you don’t want to mess with Aidan from Our Lady of Righteous Rage. I’ve had a few readers tell me he’s their favorite character from the “Our Lady” series, and it’s no wonder. He’s funny, sarcastic, and very protective of the people he cares about. Get to know Aidan and the rest of the “Our Lady” cast in “Rowdy”, the third book in the series, coming at the end of October!
