The year 2024 ended on a rather sour note for many of us, myself included. Let’s face it: a lot of crappy things happened last year. The Presidential Election. Wildfires in California. Hamas. Ukraine. Shootings, stabbings. People pushing other people in front of trains. Last year blew chunks. And to be honest, 2025 didn’t start out very well, either.
I didn’t feel like writing anything. I didn’t feel like posting anything. Everyday I’d walk past the computer, wanting to turn in on, but thinking, what for? What exactly am I going to do, anyway? Everything sucks and I just don’t feel like writing. Then, one day, at work, a coworker asked me a question.
“Are you okay? I haven’t seen you post anything online lately.”
I didn’t think anyone had noticed my online absence. I told myself I was having a Dry January of a different kind. But someone noticed. Then I wondered, if 1 person noticed, did 2 people notice? 3? 4?
Damn.
Even when everything around you is falling apart, I suppose you have to find the strength to carry on. Even when everything else sucks, keep doing what you love. Keep doing what fuels you. Its time for me to take my own advice. Each new year, I set up a composition notebook which I use throughout the year to keep up with writing projects, notes, research, etc. I always buy some cheap book from the Dollar Tree or Walmart. This year I decided to treat myself a little better. I bought a leatherbound notebook from Office Depot, and a set of Pilot Precise V5 pens (I freaking LOVE those pens). This year is going to be different. I have too many good ideas in my head to ley my computer sit on the shelf gathering dust any longer.

2025: you wanna fight? You wanna throw some bad shit my way, knock me down a few times and see how I react. Fine. Challenge accepted.
PS: anyone reading this who feels like they could use some encouragement, comment below. I’ve got you.

It’s disappointing that you, who I’ve followed for some time, would choose to mention Hamas as something that ruined your mood, without mentioning the slaughter of tens of thousands of civilians by the IDF. This level of dehumanization of Palestinians by people who consider themselves progressive and enlightened is truly astounding and disturbing. It leaves me with no hope that we can unite against facism.
I’m sorry that you feel that way, Maria. This is not a political post, and I didn’t mention Hamas because it “ruined my mood”. I mentioned Hamas along with many tragic things that happened last year that have made many of us feel terrible about the state of the world. When you feel terrible, it’s difficult to do anything good. 2024 was a depressing year and I’m trying to pull myself together. I try not to make these posts too personal, but there are times when I need to write something here in order to clear my mind and my spirit. Today was the first time I had the courage to do that. Feel free to unfollow me, or if you read something else you don’t care for, just keep scrolling.
