A few years ago I had a reading with a psychic, who informed me many people have what’s known as a “male brain and female brain”. There are two sides of your mind, one masculine and one feminine, and some of the decisions you make are often guided by one side or the other. I tend to believe this, because even though I’m a female and have always felt female, growing up I had my tomboy moments. To this day, sometimes I’m just more comfortable in men’s clothes or I step up and take charge when people around me seem unable to. The psychic informed me my “male brain” can be very dominant sometimes. I decided to let my male brain step into one of my characters and write a book.
Every day there needs to be a daily combination of soap, water and you.—Aidan Sirci
There are many authors who use pen names. George Orwell wrote under the name Eric Blair. Mark Twain used Samuel Clemens. J.K. Rowling has Robert Galbraith. And, lets not forget Nora Roberts, who uses J.D. Robb. This will be my first time writing a book under a different name. I have thought about doing it before, but didn’t have the guts. But 2026 is my year of stepping out on a limb…a very long limb, so I’m going for it.
Radio silence. You could have heard a mouse fart. My brother Stefano started laughing. My mother shot him a dirty look. My father just shook his head.
I’m Sorry For The Things I Said While I Was High: Stories & Advice is written by me, but under Aidan Sirci’s name. He’s become a favorite among my Our Lady of Righteous Rage readers, and he’s one of my favorites, too. I wanted to use a character who has an interesting personality and life and after writing I Probably Should Have Kept That To Myself, I knew Aidan was the one. Aidan may very well be my “male brain”. If you’re reading this and you’ve considered publishing under a pen name you may want to give it a try. It sort of feels like you’re stepping into someone else’s mind and displaying their thoughts. After writing the first three stories I have to admit I experienced a sense of freedom. I could be someone else and let their creativity take control. It’s been an interesting trip so far.
